NHL ALL STAR GAME

 

History:

The first official NHL all star game did not exist till the national hockey league season of 1947-48. Before this, there were numerous occasions on which benefit matches were played and all star teams were being created. In the true form, the all star games were played even before the formation of the national hockey league. An all star game was held on 2nd January, in the year 1908, by the eastern Canada amateur hockey association. The earnings that came from the game were donated to the family of the Wanderers player Hod Stuart, who lost his life due to drowning.

The official Games:

From the season of 1947-48, the All Star Game is played every year. It was not played in the year 1966, because of the shifting of the timing of the game from its current timing to the middle of the NHL season. In the year 1979, the all star game was replaced by the challenge cup 1979. In the year 1987, it was replaced by the rendezvous 87. In the year 1995, due to the lockout stage the game was shortened and in 2005 it was totally cancelled. Because of the collective agreement, the national hockey league did not hold the all star game after this.

Ace Bailey Benefit - All Star Game:

An unofficial National Hockey league game - All Star Game, was held in the year 1934 for the benefit of the Toronto Maple Leaf team forward player ace bailey. He had suffered from an injury which ended his career.
