NHL ENTRY DRAFT

History:

The NHL Entry Draft is a meeting of the franchises present in the National Hockey League. The systematic selection of all eligible amateur hockey players is done in the meeting. The first draft of the national hockey league took place, in the year 1963 in Montréal, at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Drafting was permitted of players, who were 17 years and more in age and were not sponsored by the national hockey league club. In the year 1969, these rules were altered to accommodate the entire amateur players, who were under 20 years of age.

The C Form:

The C form is the standard document that is issued by the NHL. It is used for the purpose of drafting amateur players into the national hockey league. The C form was mostly used during the era of the original six. Before the universal draft in the year 1969, all the amateur drafts had the intention of taking only those players, who did not fall on the sponsorship list of the National Hockey League. The form led to a contract of the NHL on a professional basis. It had to be signed by the aspiring candidates, who had completed 18 years of age.

Misconception Regarding the C Forms:

In the early days, there existed a popular belief that the players of young hockey aspirants signed their children’s lives to the teams of the National Hockey League through the C form. But the fact was that, the aspirant had to have completed 18 years of age before signing the C form.
