NHL ICE HOCKEY GOALTENDING EQUIPMENT

Blocker:

The blocker is a NHL Ice Hockey Goaltending Equipment that is worn by the hand and holds the stick. It has a glove that has a rectangular shaped board attached to the back side. The board is curved at one end. The position of the palm of the blocker on the back side is in the middle. New models have the palm placed more inside the glove to assist in covering more net space. In most of the cases, the goalie wears one blocker only. The flare of the board is covered with leather and has holes cut in it to save the weight.

Trapper:

The trapper which is also called the catch glove or the catcher is worn on the hand that is free. It is very similar to the baseball mitt with the only exception of a deeper pocket. A bulky glove prohibits a good handling of the stick. The trapper is one of the most cared equipments in the goaltenders kitty. The fit of the trapper is very important. The angles of the trapper are equally important. In order to prevent a condition known as “pancake pocket” the goal tenders strap objects in the glove, when it is not in use.

Chest and Arm Protector:

This equipment of the goaltender is developed for the protection of the chest, arms, shoulders and the area of the collarbone from the pucks impact. It has to be worn inside the hockey jersey. With the advent of foams of high density, the safety of these equipments has increased.
