NHL GOALTENDER PLAYING STYLES

Stand Up Style:

The stand up style is one of the NHL Goaltender Playing styles. In this style, the puck is stopped in the standing position without going down. The goalies bend ever for stopping the puck with the upper part of their body or they give the puck a kick. These saves are called kick or skate saves. The goalies also may use the stick to stop the puck. This style was the most commonly used in the early days of the national hockey league.

Toes Up Style:

The toes up style was the second form of style, in NHL goaltending. The goalie has to go down, in order to stop the puck in this style by kicking their pads in the outward direction, with the toes pointing towards the top. The goalies got more success in stopping the pucks in this style than the stand up style. This style of the national hockey league goaltending styles was mostly used in the seventies through the nineties.

The Butterfly Style:

In the butterfly style, the goalies have to go down keeping their toes pointing towards the outside position. They have to do this with both their pads and that too, with the top of the pads meeting in the centre. By doing this, a wall made up of pads is created. This hole less wall prevents the chances of the shots that are hit on a low angle, from getting into the net. The goalies using this style have to bank mainly on their position and timing.
